Find total space required to successfully restore full database backup.

Hi All,

I have a production database running in Full recovery mode. Recently it did not restore because of lack of space on C: drive. The backup size is 42GB. The restore required 135GB on C: drive. We managed to restore it on different drive.

I'm just curious though, how to find out what space would be required for successful restore of a database backup?

Is there any information in DMVs that could help decide it?
